As CEO of Crane, Matt drives the company’s mission to develop and operate data centers in a smarter, more sustainable way. Before founding Crane, Matt spent over 12 years at Google, where he played a pivotal role in scaling the company’s global data center and network infrastructure. He led acquisitions of over $5 billion in infrastructure investments, securing mission-critical sites and network capacity across North America, South America, and Asia. His leadership in site selection, strategic acquisitions, and telecommunications infrastructure enabled Google’s rapid expansion and supported the scaling of products like YouTube, Search, and Maps.
During his tenure at Google, Matt led the entry of Google Cloud Platform (GCP) into Japan and Australia, securing the critical infrastructure necessary for expansion into these key markets. He also spearheaded the acquisition of large-scale data center campuses for the company’s self-build data centers across three continents, totaling more than 1,600 MW of capacity. His efforts expanded Google’s global data center footprint into Northeast Asia, where he led site selection and acquisitions in Japan, Taiwan, and Australia. He led the acquisition of Google’s largest data center site in Asia (now the primary data center campus serving all of Northeast Asia) and led the acquisition of Google’s largest data center site in South America.
Matt also played a crucial role in securing all leased data center capacity across North America, South America, and Asia ensuring Google’s network infrastructure could scale efficiently. He was responsible for the development of Google’s global Master Services Agreement (MSA), which standardized and streamlined how the company leased colocation capacity worldwide. His contributions were recognized at the highest levels, earning him Google’s prestigious Founder’s Award for leading the global rollout of Google’s caching platform - an initiative that transformed the company’s network infrastructure, reduced latency, and increased revenue by billions.
Matt founded Crane with a bold vision to rethink how data centers are designed, built, and operated. Leveraging his deep expertise in infrastructure development, he is building Crane into a next-generation data center platform that prioritizes efficiency, sustainability, and innovation. Under his leadership, Crane is redefining digital infrastructure, ensuring that mission-critical facilities meet the evolving needs of hyperscalers and enterprises while reducing environmental impact.
Matt graduated from Georgetown University with a BS in Business Administration and studied finance at the London School of Economics. He received his MBA from Washington University in St. Louis as a Knight Scholar (top ten graduates).
